chomp!

I've been reluctant to admit this in blogdom, but our little Miles is a biter. This problem surfaced a couple months ago at the child-center in our Gym ... and has been plaguing my life (and countless victims' lives) ever since. We first tried time-out, then some friends told us to flick his lip. Next, we actually tried biting him back (I know, barbaric). Miles just laughed and bounced away. The only lasting impact was a mark that remained through the next day. This provoked me to try a completely different approach - positive reinforcement when he didn't bite. no luck. So, now I've done what any respectfully crazy mother would do. I took more nutso advice from a renegade mom like myself ... and tried Tabasco. That's right, straight Tabasco right on the tongue after he chomped.

He liked it.

Or, at least, he didn't not like it. So, I gave him a heartier dose. The kid licked his chops a little and happily spent the rest of his 2 minutes in time out. So, I put a little on my tongue to see what it was like. It wasn't pretty-

This little boy (my dear, sweet boy) is apparently the child equivalent of a pit bull - specifically, a pit that downs Tabasco like nobody's business.

Oh I love it!! He is so cute by the way. Seeing as I am not a mother, (granted I have been practically a mother for the past year, but still,) I have found a couple options:

and

Just some options I think would be oh so fabulous! (and since we haven't spoken in ages, and in type you can't always grasp the intended facetious tone, I'm kidding)

Oh my gosh Ali....hahaha So sorry to laugh but I can't beleive he didn't even flinch at the tabasco.

I wish I had some stellar advice but I have never had a bitter. GOOD LUCK.

Hi Allie!

Oh my....it seems you certainly have a problem on your hands! But I thought I would pass this a long...did you know it's actually "recommended" to "bite-back?" Long story short...my mom works with teenage moms and goes to training all over the country from experts on raising children.

and she said they teach you to explain to your child that biting hurts, and that you are going to bite them so they know how it feels. (because they don't know what it feels like to BE bitten)

Uh.....sorry that actually didn't work for you. But, I just thought you should know, you're not barbaric!!!

Good Luck!

Hey Alli--Miles is too too cute. n I hope that you guys are enjoying Denver. My little sister (she's married to Cleveland) said they had a visit with you a couple of weeks ago. Small world!

I must admit I was relieved to read this on your blog, because I thought I was the only one with this problem. Lucy bites so hard, and she reserves all of the super mean bites for me. We tried spanking her teeth, slapping her hand, sending her to her room, time out, sitting with Mom, and spanking her tiny little bum. All of these things only result in a happy smile and an out-loud laugh. I am just plain old out of ideas. Also, when I cry she laughs. I can only hope this problem resolves itself before our new baby loses a toe.
